We are delighted to announce that our captivating book, The Geographical Names- Memory of Generations (الأسماء الجغرافية) by Dr Khalifa Alromaithi, is in the shortlisted titles for the Contribution to The Development of Nations category of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s 18th edition. The shortlist includes only three books, and the winner will be announced during the Abu Dhabi Book Fair.
The Geographical Names- Memory of Generations (الأسماء الجغرافية) investigates ancient geographical names of sites in the United Arab Emirates, exploring their history, nature, relationship to the surrounding environment, and changes in pronunciation. Many of these names have been lost due to urbanization and are absent from contemporary memory. Dr Khalifa Alromaithi is a pioneer in the science of National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) in the UAE. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Geospatial World Forum in April 2019 in Amsterdam. He has expertise in strategic planning and geographical policies due to his high-ranking governmental positions and played a key role to oversaw the founders of the country.
