When We Were Happy

Whatever happens to us, it leaves scars. Yet not all those scars hurt us. Some of them, whenever we look at them, remind us that fear and pain weren’t easy, and that we overcame them by ourselves and without any external help. This thought alone shows us how much time has been invested there until we have become who we are now, at this very moment.

Asmaa Bashir Alzebiani Born in December, 1997, Asmaa Bashir Alzebiani is an English Literature student who’s keen in everything related to art, like drawing, music and writing. She began writing as a hobby, practicing at leisure times until she found herself passionate in its nuances and enjoying mentioning the characters to others. Asmaa treats the characters in her book as real ones; they have their own thoughts and personal beliefs, which means they do not relate to her real personality. They are independent characters that do not represent her. Asmaa has written a lot before, but this is her only work she has decided to publish.

كتاب ”حينما كنا سعداء” عبارة عن قصة اجتماعية قصيرة. أعجبني أسلوب الكاتبة جداً حسيت لغة الكتاب جميلة وسهلة على الجميع. الكاتبة جداً ماهرة في إيصال المشاعر للقارئ وعلى قلة صفحات القصة إلا أنها مليئة بالنصايح والعبر. الكتاب راح تنهيه بجلسة وحدة بكل مشاعر الخوف على عائلة سمية. وصراحة أنا دائماً ما أمل من النصائح الغير واقعية المتضمنة في الكتب ولا تمسني بالقدر الكافي، ولكن الأحداث والمواقف اللي في كتاب "حينما كنا سعداء" مألوفة للجميع وأغلب المواقف راح تحس إنك مريت/ي فيها أو شي قريب منها وراح تحس بالتعاطف جداً مع العائلة جداً وخاصةً شخصية (سمية) حسيت كأنها تتكلم لي وتفضفض لي وفي هذه الفضفضة كلها راح تعطيك نصايح في كيف تجاوز الحياة والخسارة. باختصار كتاب "حينما كنا سعداء" عبارة عن (قرصة) تعلمك تقدير العائلة. وهذي بعض الإقتباسات التي لامستني بشكل كبير: «حينما كنا سعداء.. كُنّا لا ننظر إلى بعضنا بعمق ولا نرى عيون الآخرين وأنوفهم وشفاههم بنظرة عميقة بل كانت نظرات أقل من عابرة ولم نظن أننا قد نحتاج إلى أن نفعل ذلك، سنموت جميعاً ولن يخلَّد أحد..» « ‏عقولنا تشعرنا أن الامور الصغيرة كبيرة، أكبر من أن نحتملها ولكن حينما تمر نعلم أنه تصوراتنا حول بعض الأمور تخدعنا تماماً، تشعرنا أن كل شيءٍ لن ينتهي و سيبقى على حاله، لكنها ستنتهي أسرع مما يخيَّل لك ولا تعطي الأمر أكثر مما يستحق»
